Some Pupils Need More Than Classroom-Based Support.

You may have pupils who:

  • Pupils not engaging in lessons despite support

  • Pupils at risk of suspension or exclusion

  • Pupils struggling to follow routines and expectations

  • Pupils not attending consistently (EBSA / absence)

For these pupils, continuing the same approach often leads to escalation.

Most schools we speak to have 1–2 pupils this could immediately support.

A Structured Alternative Provision Intervention

This is a part-time Alternative Provision pilot, designed to support schools with pupils who need a structured intervention outside the classroom.

It is:

  • Planned and supervised

  • Built around clear routines and expectations

  • Focused on behaviour, engagement and reintegration

It is not:

  • An activity programme

  • Unstructured outdoor provision

  • A replacement for school

Why the Environment Matters

Research shows outdoor learning can significantly improve engagement and behaviour, with over 90% of teachers reporting increased engagement and 80%+ improvements in behaviour

👉 This is why the environment is not a bonus — it’s part of the intervention.

Why Outdoor Learning Works

Research shows that structured outdoor learning can significantly improve engagement and behaviour.

  • A large body of UK evidence shows improvements in behaviour, cooperation and relationships when learning takes place outdoors

  • Pupils who struggle to focus and engage indoors may participate more effectively in outdoor environments

  • Studies also highlight improvements in motivation, social skills and engagement, particularly when programmes are structured and consistent

Outdoor environments provide:

  • Reduced noise and classroom pressure

  • More space to manage behaviour and movement

  • Practical tasks with clear outcomes

For this reason, the environment is not an added feature — it is part of the intervention.
